July & August Fishing Update

The fishing during July and August has continued to be very good at the lake. A club member within the last week  caught 48 carp over a 3 day period.

During one morning fishing trip to the lake two club members caught 150lbs & 125lbs of fish respectatively ( not a bad few hours fishing!!!)

Lots of carp being caught 15lbs plus and the heaviest fish reported in July – 20lbs Common & 21.5lbs Mirror. Please remember to log your catch in the hut by the bottom carpark

Not everyone wants to catch carp and a good number of both tench and bream are being caught as well.

A reminder to all members and those fishing on a day ticket please take time to read the rules and abide by them ( especially regarding litter & parking ) don’t spoil the lake area for other people.

Fishing report for April May and June

April,May and into June the lake has provided really excellent fishing. A large number of carp being caught 15 – 20lbs. The heaviest carp was caught at the beginning of June – 22lbs mirror. Many anglers have been able to beat their P.B with the number of fish caught and the weight of individual fish. Also lots of good size bream and tench up to 6lbs coming out.

Visiting the lake and its surroundings you will find a large variety of wildlife, Canada geese, wild duck, moorhens, coots, grebe and their young. Also seen regularly the kingfisher, heron, green woodpecker and earlier this year sedge warblers.

Over the summer work will begin to replace stagings all around the lake.

Fishing Update

The lake was fishing very well during the autumn and as temperatures fell the fish became harder to tempt, only the dedicated angler could be found at the lake. The very cold spell saw most of the lake covered with a thick layer of ice. As spring approached and temperatures warmed up and more anglers appeared (some even night fishing !). These past few weeks the fishing has been excellent, the last weekend in March saw over 230lbs of fish caught during a morning session. The biggest carp reported caught during March- 17lbs (unless you know different?)

The new season for lake membership commenced 1st April and already we welcome quite a number of new members.

Fishing for August & September

The varied weather during August & September left the water level of the lake down and some colder temperatures resulted in the fish proving harder to tempt for some anglers. However some good weights still being caught – Heaviest carp for August/September – 21.5lbs.

During August more work has been carried out around the lake. The removal of excess reeds/branches in the swims   and all around the perimeter of the island has now been completed.

A new style platform has been constructed in peg 18 – next time you’re fishing at the lake please go and have a look.

June & July Fishing

The lake has continued to provide excellent fishing during June and July.

Many double figure carp are being caught, also some good skimmers, bream and some strong tench. Some work has been carried out on the few pegs that were not so accessible, meaning that all 31 pegs are now in use. It has been good to see a good number of new members fishing the lake this season.

Once the golf driving range is completed it is hoped to start design and survey work on Lake no.2 !

Fishing April & May 2010

April and the start of May has seen some excellent fishing at the White Horse Country Park lake Wiltshire. A days fishing for one regular lake member has meant catches of over 100lbs each visit. There are some very good specimens of carp, perch, bream and tench being caught. The largest carp caught since beginning of April – 24lbs.

Even if you can’t tempt the fish, the setting is good and there is lots of wildlife around the lake. Have you seen the woodpecker or glimpsed at the kingfisher?
